Making things happen

Seh Hui Leong

Life

What was previously a passive attempt had me more energized and becoming more active.

What I’m referring to now is job hunting. Well… pretty much it started with me exposing my resume and in due turns of events I ended up getting calls from headhunters. So now I find myself quite engaged in exploring possibilities outside while still working on whatever tasks on hand at the moment.

What’s very interesting is the fact that the whole process is really an eye-opener to me, it’s like the very first time I get to step into other people’s offices and see how each of these environments were unique from the others and get to chat with a bigger pool of people. I get to find myself traveling into places that I haven’t …

The Last Lecture

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Directly copied from my email I sent to my friends and family:

For those who aren’t aware, Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture is the recent best-seller book in the market at the moment, which Randy, a computer science professor for Carnegie Melon University, shares his views and thoughts of life as he approaches death - literally, as he has only months to live due to pancreatic cancer.

For those who haven’t read the book, fear not, you don’t need to get it at all. I wanted to share with you his video of “The Last Lecture” which gain astounding popularity after this talk was posted on the web. You can access the videos via the video links in this page (Under the “The Last Lecture” section)

Personally I recommend to watch the …

Wild cards

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Currently I introduced enough wild cards in my own life which I felt makes my own future unpredictable… at least in the short term. When one has to have long term focus, sometimes such initiatives and decisions are inevitable.

… when you decide to move forward, there’s no room for regret”

To be honest, the situation is still misty as the storms has yet to calm its rages, ensuring the ship stays afloat is the still the main priority and I’d foresee it to be important to assess my own situation before making a decision on what’s the next step that I should take. By all means all that I could do now is to work things out along the way and I need to make sure that I yield enough flexibility to …

New journeys starts from today… everyday

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Just finished reading The World is Flat… and within one sitting I finished Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture, which came to me as a very enchanting read.

Skipping the review (probably would be integrated in my drifting thoughts posts anyway), they are bestsellers for a reason and I can testify to that. For those who haven’t read them, I greatly recommend that you pick it up :).

Achieving a financial milestone

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Today’s the day! 😄 The first time I had the amount invested in two funds to hit five figures each. It took me three years to attain to that amount and it’s really a great achievement in by itself.

Given that I will progress (read: salary increment), it’s just the time for me to revise and up my investment amount as soon as that time comes. Now all I need to make sure I’m persistent in learning as I continue my investment journey.

Only thing left is to wait

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Finally I settled with the three preferred destinations for the 8D/7N hotel stay prize that I won previously. Posted it out and now all I needed is to wait for their phone call to confirm where I’ll be going.

As for work, I sort of have a few contingency plans worked out on my head and came up with a resolve on how I should interpret the situation that I’m having now. By all means, I have to change for the better myself and it’s not really an option anymore. The solutions and plans that I have now may not be all that comfortable for others and myself, but considering the fact that it has not happened yet and things will unfold eventually, I still have time to fine tune and …

Life

This is crazy! My reading-list is getting longer and longer and having yet another BookFest end of this month isn’t helping ^^||. Anyway, here’s a new list of books:

  • Let’s Go Europe on a Budget 2008 from St Martin’s Press

Adventures in Felghana

Seh Hui Leong

Life

This week I have myself drowned out by Ys: The Oath in Felghana, I can sort of make out the meanings in Japanese sentences, so that’s a good sign :D. Definitely have to study more kanji and grammar though :(, it’d be cheating to make smart guesses on the kanji’s meaning based on my knowledge in Chinese. It’s indeed a very addictive game indeed that instantly hooks me with fast-paced action with lush graphics. The game mechanics and system is pretty much tuned to perfection and the boss battles provide much variation that it’s never a boring moment. Only gripe? Hard mode is bloody challenging >_<||. (I do agree with some pages that I came across that YsF normal mode is equivalent to Ys6 hard mode)

Well, I guess that’d …

My One Month Old Nokia

Seh Hui Leong

Life

'New Phone'

… lasted for exactly that long and found itself have its place taken over by the new Samsung SGH-E590.

I’m pretty surprised myself at first actually, considering the fact that I’m in a very strong opinion of not changing my phone, the thought of changing phone after so short of a period like a month seemed so absurd at that time I can’t even imagine the possibility.

I guess there’s times when hell does freezes over, after all. 😛

Anyway~ what motivated me to make the sudden, unplanned splurge? Two things: The 3.0MP, auto-focus camera which takes Really Good Pictures™ (RGP) [Note: See the “culprit” below] and it was at a price I simply couldn’t refuse (RM499!!!). The small factor and lightness of the thing makes it even more irresistible …

The Rudder

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Been experiencing one of the greatest “tsunamis” at work as we are witnessing one leaving after another, each with their own personal reasons. Being shocked with the departure of Sze Hau, I’d say that this is even a greater of a shock. Domino effect, perhaps? But definitely taking quite a stressful toll on everyone of us.

In times of turbulence, it became even more critical to hold on to the rudder”

At least that’s my way of reminding myself to remain my focus and not being swept away by all the tides in our surroundings and my own emotions. With the high tension on me being way off schedule of my development work, I can’t afford putting myself in a weaker position than where I’m being now.

And the good news …
