A Couple of Excitements

Life

Finally got my last batch of dividend slips for 2007. (Yes! Now that decreases the number of documents that I have to wait for to file my taxes)

And it’s very exciting when I sort out my book receipts (again I overspent on books XDDD, but at least I can give those receipts out) and dividend slips. More exciting to know that the dividends amount to more than a month’s salary (yay for baby steps to financial freedom :D), which gives me a lot of motivation to work towards my next financial goals in the years to come.

Got my phone back but I didn’t really get to test it at the moment but so far no problems :). Looking forward to holding on to it for more than 3 years in great …

Today’s Drifting Thoughts: Random things while resting

Seh Hui Leong

Reflections

Was offline for a few days as I was back in my hometown, only to realize that the Internet is starting to become more of a communication necessity to me… well… not really until you found out that you had one Internet auction you have to pay for within the week ^^||. But pretty much the thing about the Internet being a necessity or a luxury greatly depends on your reliance on it to do the stuff that you wanted to.

I mean, so long institutions provides a mean to do things in a convenient manner. The power of consumerism is that so long that institutions and corperations provide something that the customer needs and is comfortable with, there’s no fear that there’ll be no business for them.

It’s like, stuff like cash …

Today’s Drifting Thoughts: Analysis Paralysis

Seh Hui Leong

Reflections

… Sometimes I just feel stupid. Well… or in other words I’m starting to have some sort of difficulty of absorbing new knowledge and synthesize something useful out of the new found knowledge that I had. Or rather that I’m not able to see concrete results out of the actions that I have taken… probably a sense of insecurity?

But anyway, probably it’s because I didn’t do much homework in enforcing my understanding towards the new subjects ^^||. Just had that feeling of analysis paralysis all this while: trying to accumulate as much knowledge as I could on a subject but didn’t really translate them into action, so in effect feeling as if I’m shrinking and unsure of which world that I’m actually living in.

Or probably my sense of …

The Perfect Undies!

Seh Hui Leong

Life

First of all, happy 2008! 😄

Anyway, just completed my Chinese New Year shopping this year. After being fed up with the amount of T-shirts that I had, I opt for collared ones. Just cutting all the crap of me failing my shopping trips, this trip to Sungai Wang Plaza proves fruitful as I got what I envisioned there. Basically I got fiery colours this year: red and orange and both of them are from Blue Toms. (capture pictures later when I feel like it)

But what came to me as a surprise is that I finally found the perfect undies after a year! Or more like I think I know the criteria of what I wanted for a very personal and intimate piece of fabric. 😛 I think I’d much prefer Diesel’s Modal fabric …

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Marathon

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Been through a HP7 marathon from last night till this evening: almost close to 24 hours straight and I finished the whole book, phew! (Heck, I only slept two hours yesterday, but the book was not completely at fault, just say that I was woken up unexpectedly by a phone call later on)

Anyway, reason I got the book is mainly due to a 40% cut on the intended retail price and the fact that I can’t hold of my curiosity in completing the series (for one thing I’m more patient in waiting for the price to drop, but was not patient enough to wait for a warehouse sale that would clear off the book with a RM30++ price tag :p). And I’m greatly satisfied with the book in the sense that …

The 2008 Resolution

Seh Hui Leong

Annual Review

It’s time to review my goals again 😊

(Optional) Work out on my personal website on something that I have great passion for

Just added three blogs, but to be very frank, they were very dormant.

Attain an asset of RM45,000 (I’m raising that bar again. RM20K seems pretty hard, to be honest. But since I’m studying more about common stocks, I think this should give me a good goal to achieve)

Surprisingly, due to the strong economy and an unexpected bonus that I received, I nailed the target yesterday (when my pay and year-end bonus was deposited). I’m not planning to splurge on them so I suppose that counts as I can sustain this amount as it is :).

Impromptu: Influence

Seh Hui Leong

Life

  • It’s not about how much you are able to influence at one time, but rather how long it’s sustainable and how to maintaining momentum of continuing the influence.
  • It’s not about getting the easy targets that comes towards you, but rather getting others spreading the influence on your behalf that is more important.
  • … and it’s all about being able to see the bigger picture of things and having a grasp of the myriad of directions that they all move themselves to.

A good start, and it’s only the beginning

Life

December’s almost over and my posts for the month is looking very sparse ^^||.

Basically I was up there at Genting Highlands with Kok Weng again to standby for a week as we just deployed/installed (or rather, redeployed) a system there. And it had been quite eventful in the sense that it was never a dull moment there. In my personal opinion the installation was quite successfully, not to say that there’s no hitches along the way: there’s still quite a few issues and throughout the whole week we are waken up by early morning calls (imagine those around the 3-5am period). Luckily Kok Weng is much more sensitive to such disruptions than I do and that I’m able to rush there quite fast despite the distance between the hotel and …

Question of the Day: Distance

Seh Hui Leong

Life

心想,梦想和现实之所以有距离,是因为自己没卖力付出,还是“若是没有距离就不是梦想”呢?

I was thinking, the reason that there’s a gap between dreams and reality, is it because we aren’t working hard enough to attain it, or is it that “it will not be a dream if there’s no distance between them”?

Gadgets for 2008?

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Hmm… As much as I was tempted, I have to hold back my horses and probably making sure that I only make my next gadget purchase a few months later? (say, February?) After all, I got my LG KU250 only a month or two ago. Currently topping the list is the Asus Eee PC, as it was something that I could definitely find a use for. Not to mention the small form factor and light-weight (so in a way I can really carry it around whenever I like it).

Then there’s the Nintendo DS Lite and the iPod, but I suppose these items can wait? Generally I’m not as into games as I used to anymore (more like I can live with it for now) and despite my growing music collection, I still …
