Today’s Drifting Thoughts: At crossroads

Reflections

I stumble across the [Investopedia’s entry on a description on the term “Fool in the shower”][fool], which is a term that describes “the idea that changes or policies designed to alter the course of the economy should be done slowly, rather than all at once… When the first stimulus is made, the effect may not be immediate, which can cause decision makers to increase the magnitude of the change, eventually causing too much stimulus.” Well, that’s pretty much the situation that I’m in at the moment.

During the past few months, I have been pretty swift in implement more changes in life for the better, opening up myself to bigger plans and possibilities in life. And then I have been experiencing the biggest change in my working environment (or more like …

Adventures in Felghana

Seh Hui Leong

Life

This week I have myself drowned out by Ys: The Oath in Felghana, I can sort of make out the meanings in Japanese sentences, so that’s a good sign :D. Definitely have to study more kanji and grammar though :(, it’d be cheating to make smart guesses on the kanji’s meaning based on my knowledge in Chinese. It’s indeed a very addictive game indeed that instantly hooks me with fast-paced action with lush graphics. The game mechanics and system is pretty much tuned to perfection and the boss battles provide much variation that it’s never a boring moment. Only gripe? Hard mode is bloody challenging >_<||. (I do agree with some pages that I came across that YsF normal mode is equivalent to Ys6 hard mode)

Well, I guess that’d …

My One Month Old Nokia

Seh Hui Leong

Life

'New Phone'

… lasted for exactly that long and found itself have its place taken over by the new Samsung SGH-E590.

I’m pretty surprised myself at first actually, considering the fact that I’m in a very strong opinion of not changing my phone, the thought of changing phone after so short of a period like a month seemed so absurd at that time I can’t even imagine the possibility.

I guess there’s times when hell does freezes over, after all. 😛

Anyway~ what motivated me to make the sudden, unplanned splurge? Two things: The 3.0MP, auto-focus camera which takes Really Good Pictures™ (RGP) [Note: See the “culprit” below] and it was at a price I simply couldn’t refuse (RM499!!!). The small factor and lightness of the thing makes it even more irresistible …

The Rudder

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Been experiencing one of the greatest “tsunamis” at work as we are witnessing one leaving after another, each with their own personal reasons. Being shocked with the departure of Sze Hau, I’d say that this is even a greater of a shock. Domino effect, perhaps? But definitely taking quite a stressful toll on everyone of us.

In times of turbulence, it became even more critical to hold on to the rudder”

At least that’s my way of reminding myself to remain my focus and not being swept away by all the tides in our surroundings and my own emotions. With the high tension on me being way off schedule of my development work, I can’t afford putting myself in a weaker position than where I’m being now.

And the good news …

Morning Energizer™

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Say hello to my new Morning Energizer™ 😛

'New Alarm Clock'

It brought back a lot of memories as this is the kind of alarm clock that managed to wake me up when I just started school as a kid :). I can’t think anything more effective than this to get me started, probably I should have bought this much earlier.

Am planning to readjust my sleep patterns again actually, hope it’d be of great help :).

By the way, got two new books myself while finding myself close to finishing Anthony Robbins Awaken the Giant Within, which strongly impacted me and reinforced a lot of concepts that I have been loosely building up throughout the years. It couldn’t be a much appropriate time for me to dig deep and do some soul search at times like this …

Physically fun outing

Seh Hui Leong

Life

Went out for a physically demanding yet extremely fun outing yesterday as I find myself trying new activities: namely paintball and go-karting.

About ten of my colleagues (I’d rather call them office-mates, though 😊 ) joining this “killing spree” organized by the company’s sports club, we got up early and reached the National Paintball League situated in Astaka Sport Complex, PJ. We are separated into ten teams of five, mixing ourselves with new friends.

Getting to the game itself is a completely different experience than being ourselves in our normal day-to-day life: when nervousness and initial doubts about the pain we are going to receive are completely wiped out by the adrenaline that pumps into our body and the excitement that we anticipate from intense combat.

As the game starts, we quickly propelled ourselves to …

New phone

Seh Hui Leong

Life

… and I do have to say what it seemed to suit my needs perfectly in a logical sense doesn’t mean that it’s the best choice that I’d make for myself (or in another way of putting it, I’d like it myself).

I’m talking about my new Nokia 3500 classic, which is just the phone that suits my needs perfectly: 2MP camera, microSD support, Bluetooth and FM radio functionality, it even supports EDGE for that matter (but not 3G, but Digi still haven’t had its 3G license so what the heck). It even uses a standard mini USB connector which means that I don’t have to purposely buy a cable for it. For the extra 100 or so, I could get a 2MP camera over a typical VGA one …

Idling…

Seh Hui Leong

Life

… as in spending two whole days drowning myself in the world of Ys 😛 (i.e. been playing Ys I & II Complete).

At least now I’m having the mood to do with normal chores: order my new pair of spectacles, done grocery shopping and cleaned up a bit. Was sort of noticing blind spots when I was crossing that very pedestrian bridge and focus on which important spots that I can get a clear view of the situation. Well, after all, I have been using that bridge for like 5 years and it’d be statistically unwise to fear crossing it ever again :). Just needed to learn how to be more alert and observant while walking alone.

Speaking of which, just out of curiosity I got a pack of Kinohimitsu, which is sort of a …

When I least expected it (again)…

Seh Hui Leong

Life

… I was assaulted and had my mobile phone robbed, plus a knock on my left forehead with a helmet. Ouch.

Anyway, sparing the details (or rather I wouldn’t want to delve too much about it), was robbed when I’m crossing the pedestrian bridge at Jalan Sultan yesterday afternoon. Decided to be admitted in the hospital for a day to have my head injuries observed and now recuperating back home. Lucky is the fact my damages, both physically and financially, is very minor, just a few bruises and a knock over my head. But I need to get a new phone, phone number and glasses; especially the glasses as my old ones was a bit overpowered. I wonder whether the occasional dizziness were because of the injury or my overpowered glasses ^^||.

But I’m …

When I least expected it…

Seh Hui Leong

Life

… and I found out I won this:

'Prize!'

That entitles me to a 8D/7N stay in a resort of one of my preferred destinations (which I had 31 to choose from).

It really came to me as a surprise (literally) as I won it via the Gatsby Move with Style contest, which I completely forgot about it after I dropped the contest form end of last year. And only by chance that I recalled that I need to check their website to see whether I’m a winner yesterday and the next thing I knew… I was on the list for the top prize :D. But getting it is not without it’s challenges though, as I found out the contact number on their page is misprinted (apparently it was corrected right after I made …
